Today Chandler has a strong manufacturing and electronics sector, and in fact goes by "Silcon Desert" in the cities Marketing materials. Chandler’s population almost doubled from 1991 (95,571) to 2001 (189, 498), making the community one of the fastest growing in the nation. Chandler is now the sixth largest city in Arizona.
